Whether using the PS4 controller wired or wirelessly, you will agree with me. Having a loose PS4 controller charging port is such a hassle.
It is frustrating to have a problematic loose PS4 controller USB port. This leads me to write this article on how to fix a PS4 controller’s loose charging port.
So, How do you fix a loose PS4 controller charging port? Let us see..
Firstly, What Causes a Loose PS4 Controller Charging Port?
The PS4 controller’s charging port is also subject to technical and physical issues like any other gadget. Among these issues are a non-functional cord, battery issues, a broken port, or simply a loose charging port.
Most people who have experienced the charging issues, specifically the PS4 controller charging port loose issue, immediately conclude that they need a new PS4 controller. What they do not know, though, is that there are quite a few fixes that you may perform to get your USB port working.
How do you Fix a Loose PS4 Controller Charging Port? (USB Port)
There are a couple of ways to fix the PS4 controller’s loose charging port. The most common and effective one is clipping the PS4 controller’s loose charging port. But before we start fixing it, you need to prepare the following:
- PS4 Controller
- PS4 Controller’s charger
- Screwdriver
- Pliers, or a salon nipper
- Small empty box
Once you have the above things ready, let us proceed with the steps.
Step 1: Open the PS4 Controller.
Grab the screwdriver and start removing the screws at the back of the PS4 controller.
To not lose any of the screws, put the removed screws into the small empty box. This trick will make your life easier since you do not need to look for these screws anywhere but the box.
Step 2: Remove the strip connecting to the PS4 controller’s port.
Once you crack open the PS4 controller, you will see a strip that connects the PS4 controller’s mainboard and its port. Usually, the color of this strip is white and is the only strip that connects both parts. Gently and carefully remove it.
Step 3: Remove all the panels that cover the charging port.
To access the PS4 controller’s charging port, you need to remove around three plastic panels to get into it. These panels don’t have any screws in them, which means that you can easily take them out from the PS4 controller.
Step 4: Remove the screw.
Before fully accessing the PS4 controller’s loose charging port, you need to remove the screw that locks it from moving. This screw and the screw you extracted in step 1 have exact sizes. Thus, you can use the same screwdriver.
Once you have removed the screw, put it into the box.
Step 5: Tighten the loose PS4 controller charging port.
Using the salon nipper, tighten the charging port by gently clipping it.
Step 6: Try plugging in the charging cord to the PS4 controller charging port.
Once you have tightened the port successfully, try inserting or plugging in the charging cord and see if it is still loose or if step 5 fixed the issue. However, if the problem persists, perform steps five and step 6 again until your charging cord tightly fits the PS4 controller charging port.
Other Ways of Fixing PS4 Controller’s Loose Charging Port?
In some cases, the issue is not the PS4 controller’s charging port but the PS4 charger you have.
However, we often completely ignore this aspect, when trying to fix this problem. In general, If we have a USB cable falling out, we will immediately look into the PS4 controller’s port itself, forgetting that the problem can sometimes be the charging cord’s port too.
Thus, you must check its pins if you feel that the issue might be the charging cord. I am referring to the protruding pins located outside the charging cable’s port.
Now, you need a needle to perform this step. Once you have one, gently push those pins out. After that, try plugging it into the PS4 controller and see if it works. You may do this a couple of times until the cable fits perfectly into the charging port.
However, if it did not work, you may need to buy a charging dock for the PS4 controller. Or, you may need to have the controller replaced. But before you do that, make sure that you have tried connecting different charging cords to the PS4 controller to ensure that the issue is the PS4 controller itself.
Summary
You need to consider three things when fixing a loose PS4 controller charging port.
One, you must try using different chargers to see if they all fall off from the PS4 controller’s charging port.
Two, you need to check if the charger’s pins are still protruding. If they are not, you may start fixing it before concluding that the issue is the PS4 controller’s charging port.
Third, you may need to use a charging dock for your PS4 controller, or if you are not willing to slash some money for a charging dock, you may replace the PS4 controller instead.
